Summary

Heading into Tuesday's matchup with Minnesota at the Crypt, the Lakers hadn't won on opening night since the waning days of teh Obama administration. October of 2016 to be precise. Well, that's not a problem anymore. The Lakers open the season strong, beating Minnesota 110-103 behind a monster game from Anthony Davis. 36 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, three blocks. He dominated in basically every measure, and was the reason the Lakers were able to gain control of the game early, and maintain it throughout. He was particularly impactful in the fourth, when LeBron James took a break and the Lakers ran everything through AD. "He attacked the game the right way," JJ Redick said. Redick had high praise for the entire team, and the way it executed en route to the win. And certainly on a night where they didn't shoot the ball well from the perimeter (5-30 from 3-point range) the Lakers won because they followed through on the broad blueprint to get more opportunities by hitting the boards. 15 offensive boards, plus 15 forced turnovers led to an extra 10 field goal attempts (a gap that actually dropped in the second half) and trips to the line. Redick praised the effort of the supporting cast, and certainly Rui Hachimura (18 points) and Jaxson Hayes (10 points, four rebounds) stood out. Austin Reaves finished with nine rebounds and four assists. Dalton Knecht kicked in with a couple buckets in his first regular season game, and the Lakers managed to get LeBron and Bronny James on the floor together - making history, obviously, but also eliminating a potential distraction going forward - without doing any damage. All in all, a great start for LA, who get a few days to practice before meeting the Suns on Friday. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: The Lakers finally win an opener, beating Minnesota 110-103. SEGMENT 2: Anthony Davis dominates. SEGMENT 3: Shooting is off, but the rebounding isn't.
