The Los Angeles Lakers’ last several years have been dour, mostly joyless affairs, as fans closely following the team are certainly aware. There has been a pretty consistent cycle in Los Angeles since 2014: draft a promising player, strike out in free agency, have all the hope from the summer effortlessly crushed by the rest of the NBA running roughshod over the team for 82 games, and then get another exciting draft pick.
