Just when you think you're out, they pull you back in. The Lakers, coming off a very good win over Oklahoma City raised it up a level on Wednesday against Dallas, using a big third quarter to turn a close game into a blowout, beating the Mavericks TK-TK. The Lakers continued to build on the offense that had been so shoddy over the course of the season, getting big contributions from Anthony Davis (28 points), LeBron James (25 points) and D'Angelo Russell (29, to lead the team). The Lakers again shot over 50% from the floor, made some 3's (42%) and, critically, didn't give the ball away like a party favor. The Lakers actually dominated the Points Off Turnovers battle, and while Luka Doncic managed to score a robust 33 points, nobody else did much damage for the Mavs, which is one excellent way to deal with them. (Kyrie Irving and Tim Hardaway Jr. were 9-33, combined.) These are the games that make the Lakers look like a threat. The offense is rolling, the energy is good (thanks in large part to Jarred Vanderbilt) and the squad looks deep. The question is whether or not they can stay healthy enough for long enough to make this momentum last. In the short term, with games against Brooklyn and Portland up next, the Lakers have a chance to turn a two-game win streak into a four-game run, and try and build from there.
