The Home of Common Sense. This is talk. We've already had several parents on saying, I don't think, I want my children to be given up for national service. I don't think it's such a great idea. Other people saying, no, this is what we've been wanting all along. This is why we want national service, because it will give our kids a sense of respect, a sense of nationalism, a sense of hope

and a sense of togetherness. We shall see. Let's ask Stanley Johnson, author, Environmentalist and

former MEP. Stanley, very good morning to you. Oh, good morning, good morning. So,

seems to have split the country this National Service debate. I mean, I'm not one which is,

I'm not particularly against is, I'm not particularly

against it, but I'm, I'm not entirely certain that Rishi Sunex thought this one through, because

surely if we were going to have this conversation about shall we sort of change the way that we

raise our children, shall we give our teenagers a sense of hope and belonging and all of that,

surely it's not a conversation to be had in five swift

weeks of an election campaign. Well, there's never a good time for this sort of conversation,

but I think he's a good idea. I just missed national service. I miss it by a couple of months.

I was born in in 1940, as a matter of I'm down here in North at the moment, because I'm down here campaigning for Salain Saxby.

And we're going to be meeting this morning in Bronson, and Broughton have got their bank holiday affair.

And the key issue here, it's related to what we're talking about.

The key issue here is how to deal with energy security, but we've got to do it the right way.

And one of the problems down here in North Devon is a plan to bring a massive, massive link

in from an off-sheb wind farm over the Broughton burrows, over into Salton Sands,

and it doesn't work.

Now, coming to your point, yes, I'm very, very conscious, of course, having been brought up in North Devon, my father was a pilot in bomb the command. He actually crashed where I'm going to be this morning. Yes, I'm terribly conscious of the need for the military presence. And of course heard, when I heard that the government was thinking of bringing in national service,

I said, good show, that is fantastic.

I was really sorry to miss by two months during my national service.

My brother, he was a little bit older than me.
