Hi, Michael. Great to be here.

Very pleased to have you on. You've had a very interesting career. You've worked as an editor at Al Jazeera.

I'm a Reuters correspondent in Africa in the Middle East. You now write a newsletter on

substact called Proximities. So as it's your first time on the show, our audience won't have seen you on here

before. Can you briefly sort of explain what your career about, what you're about, and those

transitions between jobs, I suppose? Yeah, God, I hate talking about myself, but I'll give it a bash.

Yeah, I mean, I suppose my international career really started off at Reuters where I was

Ethiopia correspondent, African Union correspondent, Uganda correspondent, and I was up in Libya

and Iraq and various different places.

So I did that for quite a long time, which was great.

But then at some point, Michael, you know, you get a little bit tired, you get a bit old,

your beard turns grey and you think maybe I should go behind a desk.

So then I went to Al Jazeera where I was managing editor of Al Jazeera.com.

And then after that, I ran a talk show, actually, a bit like this, a live talk show on Aja Zaire called The Stream.

And then I came back to London to work for Reuters again, but as deputy editor-in-chief of the Thompson-Royders Foundation.

And yeah, recently I've gone independent.

I mean, I'm calling it independent.

It could be unemployed.
