Bill Whalen, is there a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, and his new column right now addresses what happens after the fire. Bill, a very good

evening to you. I've covered this story for weeks now and it's a tragedy at the same time,

Los Angeles rising from the ashes. The metaphors are already. However, your most recent column

suggests that we're just at the beginning of the melodrama, maybe act one.

Who are the players that we should watch, who we should watch, and where are they going?

The players would include Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass, who is going to have to oversee the rebuild in terms of local regulations

and local nepotism and favoritism and so forth. The story is going to include Governor

Newsom as to what he can do vis-a-vis his executive powers to try to speed up the cleanup process.

The plot is going to involve leaders from state, local, and county government to see if they could work in accord.

And the plots could involve a lot of specialists, Chris John, who are going to pile into this when we're talking about rebuilding Los Angeles, all with their agendas.

There are people who want to deregulate California as best as they can. There are people who want to further regulate California.

When you're talking about building homes, John, you're getting into incredible,

complicated regulations, environmental laws, and so forth.

In short, a lot of potential bad actors here.

And so this is what I'm looking at this hour, at this hour.

There will be investigations into what caused the fires.

There will be investigations into why the,

um,

response to it would seem to be inefficient or substandard.
