Summary

La Liga becomes the second of Europe's big five leagues to return this week, following in the footsteps of the Bundesliga and there's plenty to be excited about in Spain: a title race, a Champions League race, a Europa League race and a relegation scrap all in the balance. We discuss all of it in a La Liga special, alongside the three players you need to watch outside of the top two, and the games we're most looking forward to—starting with the Seville Derby that kicks us off on Thursday.  There's also a chat with our friend Stu Holden, who's a part-owner of relegation-threatened Real Mallorca. He talks about what it's been like owning a club in this weird time, and how the club is looking to avoid the drop back into the Segunda.  If you want more Ranks content, make sure you're locked in as Sam and Jack commentate on Sevilla-Real Betis on Thursday night (9pm UK/4pm ET/1pm PT) on the HotMic app - sign up using the code RANKS! It's B.R. Football Ranks and La Liga is back. Welcome to the podcast. My name is Jack Collins and I'm joined by Sam Tai. Hello, mate. And Dean Jones. Hello, mate. How excited are we? I'm big excited

0:35.6

for this one if you ever know it. Oh yeah. We saw. We saw. We heard it. We heard it. Well, Jack, you and I are, we're going to settle into this groove in the right way, aren't we? We're going to commentate on Real Betis Sevilla. So we're obviously excited for the first game and everything that comes with it. And then, of course, flowing into the weekend, it's going to be non-stop, the league of football, which is something we haven't had for a long

0:56.2

time. It's going to be great. I think we've loved having the Bundesliga back, but, you know,

1:00.8

expanding that last week, obviously the Primera came back. I watched a little bit of that, but this

1:05.6

week feels like the first kind of expansion into lots of different elements of football and being able to kind of switch

1:12.3

between two leagues or three leagues in this case adds a real nice element of how this weekend

1:17.2

feels like it's going to go poor old bunder's leger that's it isn't it they've had their time in the

1:21.2

limelight that's it no i think the title race ending so early will play into the league's hands, won't it?

1:28.5

Because totally, yeah, totally.

1:30.6

Well, I think that's the thing that I'm most excited about.

1:32.9

So I've finally stopped watching like games from years gone by.

1:36.9

I finally stopped watching birds building nests.

1:39.8

And I'm now concentrated on the present.

1:43.1

I'm looking at this season.

1:44.8

And it feels really good to be watching stuff that's actually relevant to what's going to be coming up in the next week or so.

1:51.4

I mean, I think that league is particularly exciting, like you say, because they are going to have the best title race, possibly the only title race.

1:59.1

We have to see what happens in Seria yet.

2:00.6

But they might be the only high-profile title race we see. Basta, obviously, with a two-point

2:06.7

advantage at a moment. And 11 games to play in five weeks is going to be pretty crazy. There's

2:13.8

going to be some really weird storylines that open up some big moments and I'm sure a few

2:20.4

injuries or red cards that really affects those little short spells of games so yeah I think
