One of the reasons it's impossible to retire from broadcasting or get out of the business of media

or, in my case, being a talk show host is

you never know what the next day is going to bring you never have a routine day there is no such thing as

normalcy the stories always change anything can happen at any time you stay as up to date as you

possibly can and you try to talk to compelling

people and learn things as you go. Occasionally, you have moments. There's maybe been 20 in my career,

where you have such an incredibly special day that something has happened to you, and you've been

involved in something in your career, in your daily job that you've

never experienced before. Something completely different than anything else. And it occurred to me

as I was driving to the radio station on Tuesday, getting ready to spend the entire hour of the

broadcast speaking with Kyle Coomer, a J-Sixer, who was released from an Illinois

pen, federal prison last week by Donald Trump when he pardoned the J-Sixers. It occurred to me

just for a second that maybe I was not up for this moment, that maybe all of my years of

broadcasting, interviewing people, meeting people, asking questions,

giving opinions, having monologues had not prepared me for this. I was pretty adamant about getting

Kyle to the radio station early so I could spend at least a half an hour with him before we

actually went on the air. Some of this is coaching,

but a lot of it was just background. Where are you from? What school did you go to? What kind of

foods do you like? What is your mom's name? Tell me about your wife, your stepdaughter, your
