Summary

Kristie began using drugs and alcohol as a teen to help her escape from the unhappiness of her difficult life. The partying habits stayed with her into adulthood and eventually began to interfere with the things she valued more. Recovery wasn't a straight line though, and she had many "day ones" before she was able to make sobriety stick for good. Kristie recently celebrated a year of sobriety and shares her story as a way to mark the milestone.  Online meetings from "In The Rooms" mentioned in this episode can be accessed here: https://www.intherooms.com/home/category/community-and-meetings/ Host Jean McCarthy's blog UnPickled is available here https://unpickledblog.com/ and be sure to watch for her latest book releases here: https://jeanmccarthy.ca/books/

1:14.0

actually recorded a show, but the technical glitch happened and everything was deleted within

1:19.7

moments of having recording it. And I should have known then that it was going to be a rotten week.

1:24.7

Things went downhill from there. Obviously, and then came all kinds of changes in our

1:31.9

world as we really felt the full force of what we're dealing with with this current global crisis

1:41.3

with the coronavirus. So wherever you are right now, I am just sending you

1:47.9

peace and strength and solidarity as we all do our best to get through this together.

1:53.0

Hungry, angry, lonely, and tired are four of the biggest triggers for people in recovery.

1:58.9

And I'm thinking that for those of us who might have our livelihoods affected by the

2:05.7

economic impacts of what's happening right now, that could affect us in terms of being

2:11.2

angry because anger can come in all kinds of forms.

2:14.5

It can come as anxiety, fear.

2:17.4

A lot of these things mask as anger and they are just

2:21.4

fuel for our addictive tendencies and lonely as we are literally isolated and possibly feeling lonely
