Summary

This week on The Treatment, Elvis welcomes SAG Supporting Actress nominee Kirsten Dunst, nominated for her role in Netflix’s “The Power of the Dog,” directed by Jane Campion. Dunst has appeared in many films including “The Virgin Suicides,” “Melancholia” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” Dunst tells The Treatment her entire approach to acting has changed in recent years, including incorporating dreamwork into her preparation. She says acting opposite her partner in real life, Jesse Plemons, in “The Power of the Dog” helped her both on and off set. And after acting in so many different roles, Dunst talks about the dream project she has yet to do: a musical.

I mean, what kind of sense do you want from them

0:57.0

when you're having your first conversation?

0:59.7

Most of it is their previous body of work to me,

which informs my decision.

1:04.8

And then with the more newer or up-and-coming directors I've worked with,

1:09.5

it's just a sense that I get, a sensibility,

1:12.7

yeah, that I feel like that, you know, their references or what they're trying to do

1:16.8

make sense and feels like they will be interesting filmmakers trying to do something different.

1:24.1

Again, for the career that you've had and be clearly a magnet for this kind of talent, I mean, having these kind of things to choose from, I just wonder if you think to yourself, well, what have I not done? Who have I not worked with? What sensibility have I not been in contact with yet?

1:40.1

Listen, one of my favorite directors is Paul Thomas Anderson, and he's, so he's kind of a dream director of mine.

1:46.7

I hope I get to work with him at some point in my life.

1:49.3

But I've always wanted to do a musical.

1:51.3

That's something that I haven't been a part of.
