So 2,000 years ago, the Apostle Paul is sitting in a prison cell in Rome.

He knew that God was eventually going to take his ministry to Rome because the Holy Spirit had revealed it.

He just didn't know it would happen because he was imprisoned.

And under house arrest, he pens several epistles that you know in the New Testament of your Bible.

One of those is Colossians,

and Colossians is one of Paul's favorite churches. But it's a church that has accepted the gospel,

and now they're encountering a lot of difficulty as they navigate cultural waters that are telling

them to question whether or not Jesus is enough. And when I say they

accepted the gospel, I'm talking about they accepted the King Jesus gospel. Notice in verse six how it

says, so then just as you received Christ as Lord continue to live your lives in him. This series,

King Jesus gospel, is about responding to the

good news of Jesus with more than a prayer that tells him we don't want to go to hell and we want to go

to heaven with more than a baptism moment, as powerful as those moments are. It is a whole life

responsive surrender that says, Jesus, I recognize that you are king over Israel, that you are

king over everything and you are king over my life. Why is it important to believe Jesus is

king over Israel? Because more than the gospel is a set of theological doctrines, the gospel is a story.

And it's a story about a people group and a chosen family and a nation and a line of kings that God reveals to be

where the Messiah is going to come from. It's so important that Jesus is crowned, son of David,

all the promises find their yes and amen in Jesus. If you don't know who the promises are to

and how you fit into the story, then the promises won't have an effect on you. But not only is Jesus king over this individual people group, and from this kingly line,

and from this family line, Jesus is king over everything.
