of Politics here at Hillsdale College. We talk with him about a recent lecture he gave regarding

We're having a conversation today off of a lecture presentation you did here on campus called

Liberty and Empire and National Interest.

We'll talk more about all three of those things through the conversation.

that we're having today is relevant when we consider today's events. So it's relevant because

liberty is always threatened and it can be threatened internally and it can be threatened

externally. And the talk that you're referring to was at the library here.

There's a series in which they invite Hillsdale faculty to talk about their scholarship.

And it sounds like a very broad set of themes, and it is.

But it was really a collection of articles and lectures that I've given over the years.

And I'd never even really thought much in terms of what I did.

I just followed my passion and my pursuits.

And it turned out when I actually had to sit down and think about it and explain it to a

general audience, from the very beginning of my academic career, I had always been

interested in tyranny and had always been
