This is CBS I on the World. I'm John Batch with Selena Zito of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette,

New York Post in the Washington Examiner in Western Pennsylvania. And Selena writes the

story of the death of a child. It's fentanyl that does it, a child, a baby. How did this

happen, Selena? And what can be done?

You know, it's just an unbelievable tragedy. And I don't know what can be done. fentanyl

is killing, killing our youth, killing our young people, killing middle-aged people. And

we do nothing about the flow of it into our country from China to Mexico and across the

border. We just, meaning the government, looks the other way, pretends it's not happening.

And it is allowing our most important treasure, our people to be poisoned.

The baby, how did it happen? There was a caregiver, 58 years old, who has the fentanyl. He left

it out on a counter. I'm trying to imagine how this happens. By the time the first responders

got there, they couldn't save the child.

Yes. We don't know the exact specifics as to how it happened. We can only surmise and

there have been cases after cases of police officers who get the dust on their legs, on

their hands, and overdose. That could be one scenario in how this baby died. The grandmother

and her friends were babysitting the little girl when her parents were out for dinner

for the night.

And what we have here is not a one instance of an odd occasion. This is a growing trend,

a fewer area. We see more of these children who are exposed to dust, and that leads to

overdosing. Is that, I never thought of it as a dust problem?

It's a nationwide problem. There was a case in January. The twin brothers playing

in a park in San Francisco. The one was exposed to fentanyl and started to turn blue and
