From Independent Music Station, K-E-X-P, you're listening to In Our Headphones, a podcast about the songs that we just can't stop listening to.

0:07.8

All right, I have Cheryl Waters, the host of the Midday Show on K-E-X-P with me here today.

0:13.3

And Cheryl, you chose a song that you're going to share with us on the show today.

0:17.9

What's you got?

0:18.5

It's Goat, a Swedish band that I am absolutely enchanted with

0:23.4

that I discovered sometime back in 2012, 2013, and they are outrageous. They're this mysterious,

0:32.7

mass, experimental, psychedelic rock band. They're based out of Gothenburg, Sweden, but they're from

0:37.2

some small town where they practice voodoo or something. They've got this real mystery around them, and they're

0:42.7

known for their explosive, energetic performances, which they do with these elaborate masks and

0:48.2

costumes. And as I said, they always stay masks so you don't know who the members are. But their live

0:52.8

shows are insane, and their albums just

0:55.2

channel that insanity and that fun and they've got Afrobeat sounds and heavy metal and Anatolian

1:01.8

funk and this psychedelic music and they fuse all these styles from around the globe and this

1:06.7

swarling mix of sound. And they released their album Goat in October 2024, and I didn't expect

1:13.4

anything for a while from them. And then in January, this single came out called Nimurudi,

1:18.9

and it featured this rap vocal stylings of this person called MC Yala. And I had never heard of

1:26.7

MC Yala. And so part of the reason I also wanted to

1:29.4

feature this song today was just to say it's sort of very descriptive of what K-E-X-B is all about.

1:37.0

Like, we're just discovering things all over the place. I discover from listeners. I discover

1:40.5

by listening to your show and Larry's show and Kevin Sir's show and the continent.

1:46.2

I'm just always discovering something new.

1:48.3

And from this band that I've adored for over a decade, I discovered this new artist, M.C. Yala.
