Good morning. It is Thursday, March 2nd. It is five minutes after 11. You're listening to

0:05.2

Kennel and Casey on 93 WIBC. So the House Foreign Affairs Committee voted yesterday

0:13.1

to give President Biden the power to ban TikTok. And this is a pretty far-reaching

0:19.1

restriction. One of the biggest ones of any social media app, the bill is known as HR 1153,

0:26.0

or the Deterring America's Technological Adversaries Act. And in it, the bill names TikTok and its

0:33.9

parent company and requires Biden to impose penalties against them, including and up to a ban.

0:43.0

I'm torn on this because I believe government certainly should ban the use of TikTok on

0:50.8

government devices because that's owned by us, the people as a collective. And there's no doubt

America period because if you want to give your information to the Chinese, why is that my job

1:30.1

to tell you no don't don't do that? There's tons of harmful behavior that people engage in on a

1:35.4

daily basis that I don't believe I should be able to tell them not to do if they know the

1:42.3

information and they still want to do it. Well, a lot of people would say that it affects

1:46.2

national security. But many people are saying that what it does, this bill that is being proposed,

1:52.8

is it weakens a law known as the Berman amendment. Oh, yeah, you remember the Berman amendment,

1:59.2

right? I probably remember that one. Well, what that does is it prohibits the government from

2:05.2

restricting the free flow of informational materials such as movies, photos, news, and social media.

2:13.5

Yeah. And again, but again, and so this is the conversation that what the government does is

2:20.8

different from what you do. And I should have a concern and I do have a concern and I do want it
