Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Onscrit podcast. This is Matt Lynch. I'm a co-host of Onscript along with Matt Bates, Drew Johnson, Aaronheim, Chris Tilling, and Amy Brown Hughes. Gender has been

in the news recently, especially if you've paid attention to the Southern Baptist Convention and the

whole kerfuffle there about whether or not a woman should teach or preach to a man. Spoiler, yes.

But as our guest today points out, gender includes more than just women. It also includes

men. And apart from

roles, role questions about, you know, what roles a man or woman should or can play and

whether they should be such limitations, it's the question of more fundamental question about

what it means to be a man and how the Bible presents that. So Kelly Murphy is our guest today, and she's

wrestling with that question of how the Bible presents masculinity in the story of Gideon as a kind of,

as a window into that larger question. And so wherever you sit on that question and in those debates,

I hope you're able to really listen to the kinds of questions that Kelly asks in this interview, and also to think through the methodological questions that are involved in the asking of those questions.
