Welcome to Our Hen House. This is Marianne Sullivan, and today I'm here on my own because

Chesman is a bit down for the count with COVID. Yeah, it's a little concerning, but I think she'll be

okay. She is getting better. But it's just me today. And, you you know I could just launch into the interview

which is terrific but I thought I would start out with a little bit of a what we

call tauts the top of the show where we talk about a few news items so that's

what I'll do but as I said if it's annoying just listening to me don't worry

because the interview is great.

I'll be talking with Liz Tyson, and she is the director of animal welfare and advocacy for

Born Free USA. She has the coolest job because she both deals with their sanctuary, which is

mostly a monkey sanctuary. I think there are some baboons there as well, maybe other primates,

but I think it was mostly monkeys and baboons. And it's in Texas. But she also does legislative

work, and she's going to be talking a little about some of the bills that are pending and some of

the other legislative opportunities that might be rising to help primates and other animals.

They are a vegan organization. You know, that doesn't happen all the

time in the wildlife world. So I love her perspective. I thought it was a great conversation.

But as I say, before I get to that, I'll talk about a few other things because there's lots going on.

One thing that I've been meaning to talk about for a while is this thing that's going on at the AVMA.

Of course, it's an ongoing situation. We know about this

mostly from Crystal Heath, who of course has been on the podcast and the name of her organization

is our honor. She is a vet. And the AVMA, of course, is the American Veterinary Medical

Association. And they have a lot of problems in their attitudes towards animals. And specifically, she's been doing

all this work around ventilation shutdown, which most of you know what that is. It's when they decide
