Peter began his letter by speaking of the provision of a godly life in chapter 1,

verses 1 through 11.

Then he went on to stress a divine inspiration, illumination, and revelation of scripture truth.

Chapter 1, verses 12 to 21.

Now he's going to warn us against those who are threatening the church's spiritual and well-being of the believer.

By teaching false doctrines.

Now, it seems like they're not really outside of the church, they're within the church,

those that teach false doctrines.

After establishing this basic Christian faith, Peter gives us the credibility not only of himself,

but the prophecies that God had given to him to explain to the church and to proceed in refuting

the teachings of the false prophets to bring them to the truth in directness of God's holy word.
