So each week on our shows, we deal with different aspects of show business.

Yes, Kim.

Yes, we do.

I deal with the business of the business, hence the name of the show, the business, the people

and the stories behind the making of movies and TV shows.

And you, Elvis, on the treatment?

On the treatment, I give them what they call a delightful philosophical shatsu,

the treatment, if you will. And they talk about the obsessions that make them want to make

these projects in the first place. So tonight, the two shows come together. We're going to be

looking at this monstrosity called awards season. It's been going on for months now, where we're

like crawling to the finish line. It's longer than the NBA playoffs.

And this weekend, it wraps up with these two big shows, which are very different.

Well, provisionally very different.

Certainly that line between them gets smaller and smaller all the time.

As we saw last year, between the Oscars and the spirits, they all had

five of the same best actress nominees came from the Independent Spirit World. What that shows is

really that that system is the way that Hollywood goes to sort of make the films that they don't

want to spend money on anymore. Let me just set the agenda. The Independent Spirit
