This is a bombshell report from Pablo Torre alleging that the LA Clippers circumvented the salary cap with Kaauai Leonard. So let's get into just what the

details are in Pablo's reporting on his podcast, which actually just started getting licensed by

the athletic. So nice bombshell report to start with here. There's this company called

Aspiration that basically tried to do carbon offsets through tree planting.

It doesn't really matter what their business model was for these purposes here.

But in 2021, according to Torrey's podcast and some audio with a former aspiration employee and documents that he has reviewed.

The following happened.

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer made a $50 million investment in Aspiration.

He made that investment through his personal LLC.

Later on in that month, the Clippers announced a $300 million partnership

with Aspiration, which would later go bankrupt and their founders now facing criminal charges.

And that was supposed to be like a 20-year agreement with the company. In April 2022,

Kauai Leonard agreed to a four-year $28 million endorsement deal through his own LLC,

KL2 Aspire.

I imagine the name Aspire has to do with the name of the company, Aspirations.

He probably founded this LLC just to get these payments.

And this was for essentially a no-show job. Kauai never did any sort of endorsement

or social media or anything whatsoever for aspiration. And the endorsement contract gave him,

quote, the exclusive right to control and approve all content and distribution, unquote, which
