So how did a nice Jewish boy like you get mixed up with education policy at Heritage?

Where did you get your start?

That's a great question. It really, I would say, started in college. I went to a business school

because like a nice Jewish boy, the plan was to take over the family business, which was a small furniture store in New Hampshire.

But a few weeks into my freshman year was 9-11.

And all of a sudden I became much more interested in public policy than furniture or business.

And at first, international policy, but then eventually domestic policy with a real focus on education.

I always loved school, loved education.

I guess I did a paper in my junior year on school. I always loved school, loved education.
