Summary

There are many new filings and rulings in the Karen Read case. Judge Cannone is allowing the Commonwealth's dog bite expert to testify, raising questions about consistency with previous rulings regarding expert testimony. The Pro Hac Vice admission for attorney Mark Bederow has been denied. There’s a motion to correct the record by prosecutor Hank Brennan and more.

Updates in the Bryan Kohberger case. I go through a new filing regarding text messages from surviving roommates and victims. Details from the 9-1-1 call are being examined and the defense filed Motions in Limine to challenge key evidence.

Welcome back to The Emily Show.

0:01.4

So much has popped off in the law that this week's episode is actually getting broken up into two.

0:06.4

So welcome to part one because though there's a lot going on with the Jay-Z cases and Diddy's got a new indictment,

0:13.5

that's going to have to come later because the amount of filings in the Karen Reed case have just not slowed down.

0:19.1

And I'm on spring break this week, so I'm not going to be

0:21.6

streaming. But I wanted to know what all of these filings said when I saw them. And I know that you do too.

0:26.7

So we are going to go over them as quickly as I can. And there was a really interesting new filing

0:33.0

among tons of new filing in the Idaho case that I'm sure you've seen some headlines about,

0:53.3

because those motions are coming up for hearing at the beginning of April.

0:56.9

And I want to go through the motions and the responses and talk about what evidence at trial is looking like.

1:01.9

But with a case that's been so under seal, we just don't have a ton of information in Idaho.

1:07.5

And so everything that comes out in the filings about the motions in limine become incredibly interesting because it's not stuff that we know. And of course, there's some

1:16.5

real interesting rulings from Judge Canoni in Karen Reed. So lawyer filings, stuff that the court

1:24.9

ruled on, and, well, text messages in Idaho. Let's roll the intro.

1:31.4

I'm legal analyst Emily D. Baker. Yes, also a lawyer. And this is the Emily show. I break down the

1:36.7

pop culture, entertainment, and high profile cases that we're all talking about. I know you want

1:41.1

the facts. So let's get into it. Starting in Idaho, all of the motions

1:46.6

in Lemonay are starting to come in, and responses are going to be due later this month ahead of a

1:51.9

hearing in early April. That hearing's going to go on with a Karen Reed case is likely in jury selection,
