Hi welcome back to the personality hacker podcast my name is Joel Mark Witt and I'm

Antonia Dodge we've been talking lately about a concept that's called the just

world theory or I would even call it the Just World

fallacy. And the Just World Theory is this idea that everything that happens to us is deserved.

Like if you are in a good situation,

like maybe you have enough money to live well

and you're in like a country that's stable, then the good things that are happening

to you must be happening because you're a good person.

And so you apply goodness to yourself simply because of your circumstances.

And then the opposite holds true, which

is that if a person is in a bad situation,

if there may be in poverty, or they're

in a war-torn country or whatever,

that they must be a bad person.

And even if somebody who holds this fallacy

doesn't necessarily think in those terms consciously, like I'm a good person because I'm in a

good situation and somebody who's in a bad situation must be a bad person. It's

it's this very subtle overlay of belief system. It's kind of where the concept of karma comes from.

Everything that happens must be happening for a reason and it must be

happening based on our evaluations as people, our character.

Yeah, and I think this is also not just on a micro level,

as us as people.
