Hello and welcome to Till Death Do Us Part Just Melissa. And on this episode, I'm going to be doing a follow-up to the murders of Spencer and Monique Teppie. So we'll go ahead and call this one a part two. When we left off,

the murders of Spencer and Monique Tepe had shaken an entire community. Two parents shot to death

in their own home and their children asleep inside and no immediate answers.

But now, weeks later, investigators say they know who did this, and they believe it was planned.

This is how police zeroed in on a suspect, why they believe he did it, and what happened in court today as the case officially moves back to Ohio.

On January 10, 2006, law enforcement made a major move. In Rockford, Illinois, police arrested Michael

David McKee, a 39-year-old vascular surgeon and the ex-husband of Monique Tepe.

He was taken into custody without incident, and for investigators, this arrest wasn't sudden.

It was the result of days of quiet tracking, surveillance video, and evidence analysis that ultimately

pointed to just one person, someone who once knew Monique intimately. From the very

beginning, detectives were struck by what wasn't present at the crime scene. There were no signs of forced entry,

nothing appeared ransacked, and the victims were shot inside their own home, suggesting they

either knew their killer or the killer knew exactly how to get inside. Surveillance video became the turning point. Cameras in the

neighborhood captured a person moving through the alley near the Tepe home during the narrow window

when investigators believe the murders occurred. Additional footage showed a vehicle arriving

and leaving the area at key moments. That vehicle was later

traced back to Illinois and ultimately to Michael McKee. Investigators believe Michael traveled

from Illinois to Columbus, Ohio, carried out the killings, and then returned north.

A round trip that prosecutors now say points directly to premeditation.

Michael and Monique had been married years earlier.

Their divorce was finalized in 2017 long before Monique married Spencer and started a whole new life.
