Summary

Whether we run, ride, swim, or practice martial arts, at some point we can feel like we’re nearing the end of the line with how far we can go. That’s especially true when menopause and midlife put us in a Malachi crunch. But maybe what feels like an endpoint is really the starting point of something exciting and new. That’s how this week’s guest, legendary cyclist Mari Holden views this stage of life since turning 50 this year. As she explains in her new Scuderia film Just Getting Started, “I feel like I’m at this point where now I can just enjoy being me.” She dives into that and much more this week. Mari got her first race bike when she was 12 years old and raced triathlons until she was 20. She switched to cycling in 1993 and was selected to the National Team in her first season and raced the Women’s Tour De France as her third stage race. She won a silver medal in the 2000 Olympic Games and the world time trial championship later that year. She was also the first American woman to win three consecutive U.S. time trial championships (1998-2000). She now is an ambassador for Pinarello and works as community director at USA Cycling, where she is spearheading a Let’s Ride initiative, which involves a nationwide effort to help get bikes into underserved communities and encourage coaches to mentor young cyclists.
