We spend a lot of time talking about science on this podcast, but science as an institution has its drawbacks.

On the science side too, you know, a lot of scientists I talked to have spent years working in the Arctic,

they've never once talked to any person who lives in the

countries where they're working you know and I think that's crazy and I mean I

don't I don't blame them but when you get an NSF grant they don't give you

time to go to have a cultural experience.

Like what does your business card say when you have a business card?

Sure, so my business card, I think,

says executive producer of threshold, you know, and I guess I feel like really I'm a reporter, but I think, you know, in this case I'm also, I'm running this whole show with my idea and it was my it's kind of my baby. So I'm doing a bunch of you know boring non-reporting stuff to

Amy's podcast threshold is in its second season. Amy did something that is really hard.

She launched Threshold on her own as a freelancer. Because like so many folks that come from

a hard news background, you can start to feel

kind of frustrated with the news format especially around environmental stories

which is where my heart lies.

It's so hard to tell those stories well in, you know, three and a half to five minutes.

The first season was all about the American Bison, efforts to bring them back to the

wild, the push back to those efforts, what all of that says about America's troubled relationship with its native people, really, really fascinating stuff.

And then just this past week, they wrapped up their second season.

This one is about the Arctic.

I remember when I actually saw the announcement that it's like,

oh, it's going to be about the Arctic.
