Summary

Paul F. Tompkins welcomes everyone who can hear his voice on this weeks Spontaneanation! This time out, Pauls special guest is This American Life host and producer Ira Glass! They chat about what memory from Iras childhood he wishes he could change, not getting the point of drinking alcohol until he turned 30, and becoming involved with the rerelease of The Adventures of Chickenman. Paul is then joined by Little Janet Varney, Jean Villepique, and Craig Cackowski, to improvise a story set in Jury Deliberations. And as always, Eban (only the best) Schletter scores it all on piano!
Paul F. Tompkins will be in Detroit this weekend for the Detroit Improv Festival! Check out DIF's full schedule to see when PFT and some of your favorite Spontaneanation improvisors will be improvising!

Hey, y'all, it's me, McWeldon. I'm here to tell you about something I made with a smart design, premium fabrics, and a simple shopping experience. Mac Weldon underwear is definitely better than whatever you're currently wearing. Now, you'll pardon my boasting, but this is true. In addition to looking and feeling great, all Mac Weldon products are crafted with natural fibers that that have built in performance capabilities, so they work hard too, like I'm working

My underwear does the same.

I even have a line of silver underwear and shirts that are naturally antimicrobial, which

means they eliminate odor.

And as you know, or do not know, I'm here to tell you right now, I am anti-microbial. I cannot buy the microbe. All this, and it's shipped right to your door. If you don't like your first pair, you can keep it, and I'll still refund you. No questions asked. That's your business and none of mine. paul f tomkins i'm the host of this show that you're about to listen to um and i just wanted to

1:19.0

quickly explain to you what it is you're going to hear a standard explanation in the body of it but

1:23.8

um just so you know before we get started uh it's a sort of improv talk show hybrid where I have a

1:31.6

special guest on the show. I interview them and, you know, try to get a lot of details out of them.

1:37.3

The interview always starts with a blind question from the last episode's guests. So they don't

1:41.6

know who they're asking and the person answering doesn't know who the question came from. And the questions range from very heavy to very light and everywhere

1:50.5

in between. Then I have some improviser friends come on and we do a set of narrative improv,

1:58.4

which is instead of little scenes that are unconnected, it's one story

2:02.3

with no break. We just go through and we play various characters and various voices and there's

2:08.7

some sound effects. And my friend Eben Schletter scores the whole thing live on piano. He's there

2:13.8

in the studio with us. It all starts with me doing a stream of consciousness monologue.

2:19.1

Everything is entirely made up on the spot. That's the name Spontaneation comes from the fact that it's a, it's a spontaneous show.

2:28.0

So there you have it. I'm very excited to have Ira Glass on the show. Unsurprisingly, a guy who is a great interviewer is also a great
