Happy to have you hi John

Nice to see my colleagues there we go. We are going to um turn to Adam in a bit to discuss this

very important June at the Supreme Court which is one of Adam's bailowick topics major decisions about

to come down from the court. We want to hear what he has to say about what's going to happen and whether

what's going to happen might have some parallels political social and otherwise to the landmark dobs decision on abortion which came out last year at the end of June 2022

but first we have two pieces of news to deal with. One of them is the passage by a margin of

311 to 100 and something of the houses debt ceiling increase bill as negotiated between speaker Kevin McCarthy and Joe Biden.

Uh, semaphore this morning the newsletter described this as McCarthy's victory lap.

I want to take a victory lap for a week. I've been saying that the way this is going down about 100

people in the house Democrats and Republicans would be given leeway to vote against it without

possibly without spiking or placing the bill in any kind of jeopardy that is

exactly what happened

hilariously one of the people who voted no on the bill. I can't remember who exactly Republican

objected that Kevin McCarthy had succeeded in getting a bill passed with more democratic support than

Republican support and that this was not fair because as he understood it McCarthy would never bring a bill to the floor

that had more democratic support than Republican support which is actually not something that is a thing.

It was that you wouldn't bring a bill to the floor that didn't have a majority of Republicans in the house
