Well, folks, disaster averted. President Biden on Saturday signed the Fiscal Responsibility Act,

lifting the federal debt ceiling until sometime in 2025, and avoiding the calamitous federal default.

We'd all been dreading for months.

And unfortunately, if you were freaked out enough to liquidate your retirement savings over all this,

well, I'm sorry to say that things got all wrapped up with a bow with only the slightest market hiccups.

The S&P 500 is actually up 3.5% over the past month and up nearly 10% since January when the Treasury Department started its extraordinary measures to avoid default. But here at Playbook, if there's anything

we fear more than a global economic meltdown, it's the news vacuum that follows a big

rolling political story like the debt ceiling crisis. Here in Washington, we are shaking the

couch cushions a bit for news.

The debt deal has paved the way for a relatively boring summer up on Capitol Hill.

This week, the Senate is back to doing what it does best, confirming Joe Biden's nominees,

while the House is back this week passing messaging bills on federal regulations and gas stoves.

Meanwhile, at the White House,

POTUS is hosting a couple of key European allies this week. Today, he's got Danish Prime Minister Meta Fredrickson visiting amid rampant speculation that she is rising in the running

to become NATO Secretary General later this year when Yen Stoltenberg steps down.

And later this week, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will be in town, a visit that will

culminate in a White House press conference on Thursday.

But the biggest political news of the week is likely to be found on the campaign trail with

a number of notable new entries to the Republican presidential field.
