Summary

As protests against ICE raids continue in Los Angeles, President Donald Trump is flexing his power in a way the nation hasn’t seen in decades, deploying 4,000 National Guard troops and roughly 700 Marines in the city. California Gov. Gavin Newsom calls the moves a provocation, labeled Trump an “authoritarian” and called the mobilization of the Marines a “red line.” But sources close to the White House view this as a strategic messaging opportunity — one they believe will play to their political advantage. Where do things go from here, and what happens next? Chief Playbook correspondent Dasha Burns and author Jack Blanchard talk it through. Plus, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ousts the entire CDC committee that oversees the safety and use of vaccines.

week so far, and that is the standoff between protesters and law enforcement in Los Angeles.

0:28.5

And in fact, in other cities around the US as well now, Dash, we'll get into all of that

in a minute.

0:33.4

It's obviously still the biggest story of the day.

We saw Donald Trump deploying another 2000 National Guard to Los Angeles last night. And I think one of the main frames

0:43.3

through which we'll be discussing this morning, we're going to see Pete Hegeseth, the

0:45.7

defense secretary, is up in the House committee this morning, and we'll no doubt be being asked

0:49.7

about that as well. Yeah, a lot of intertwining storylines and obviously deeply political at this point. You bet. It's been deeply political since the start. The second thing Washington talked about today, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy's decision last night to he said retire all 17 members of the committee that advises on vaccines. Let's face it, he fired them, right? He fired all of the people that

advise him on vaccines. Via an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, Dascher, I believe that's how many

1:16.2

of them discovered that this was happening. This is something he said, or he appeared to have said

1:20.0

he wasn't going to do before he took the job. Last night, he went ahead and did it anyway.
