Pretty much every trip that a president or vice president takes overseas is a mix of policy and politics. When it comes to

Vice President Kamala Harris's trip to Guatemala and Mexico, that wasn't much different. When it

comes to policy, her aides, allies, and those in immigration say that the vice president did what

she had to do. Two aides on the trip told us that conversations with state leaders went well.

There was some criticism when the vice president told Guatemalans do not come to the United States.

Advisors did downplay that, but on the politics, they did admit that her performance could have

been smoother. They'll also remind you, too, that the bar is much higher for a woman of color.

For months, Republicans have been trying to pin the entire immigration quagmire on Harris,

despite the fact that her assignment is actually much narrower. We're told that people in the

White House have been increasingly frustrated by it, but they recognize that the GOP isn't

going to stop beating the,
