Julie Buckner and J had been emailing back and forth for months, but only when the final word came down that she was definitely closing her yoga center did they sit down and talk about the state of affairs. They discuss the hard realities facing independent yoga centers vs standardized and scaled models, what it means to be successful but not profitable, real estate markets and sustainability, and even get into a bit of national politics. More than anything, they look to each other for support and inspiration.

Hello. Welcome to any new listeners. Thanks to my returning friends. This is Yoga Talks podcast. My name is Jay Brown. And this is a very unusual situation. You see, it is

0:25.2

late on a Sunday night. And normally I'd be waiting several more days before sitting down to do

0:34.1

this. Normally I'd be in my basement. But right now, I am outside in

0:41.1

Williamsburg, Brooklyn, because I got a little daughter, just about two years old, named

0:46.8

Annabelle, who's not feeling very well tonight. And mom's dealing with her, and I think I was down there and I was worried that I might have

0:58.7

woke her up. Maybe she heard me down in the basement doing my thing late at night on a Sunday

1:03.4

night. Why am I doing it so late on a Sunday night? Because I'm leaving town tomorrow. I'm on my way to Finland for nine days. I got a gig there.

1:15.3

I've done it once before. Lovely people at Studio Yin. Shout out if anybody's listening.

1:22.1

I'll see you guys in a couple days. But I'm not going to have any time to record anything. So it's got to be done now. It's not

1:30.4

going to happen tomorrow before I go to the airport. So this is what we got, people. Today's

1:37.2

episode with Julie Buckner from In Yoga in Los Angeles is right on point.

1:45.7

Honestly, it's one of those situations like with Sam Chase where everything that I might

1:52.4

tell you about that's been going on with me this week, kind of talking about because I'm

1:57.2

just dealing with stuff, you know, with the center.

2:00.7

And, you know, really, though, it's like it's still in the future. I'm just dealing with stuff, you know, with the center. And, you know, really, though,

2:02.0

it's like it's still in the future. I'm not there yet. And I really realize that sometimes I can

2:07.3

let my mind go there a little too much, you know, it's like take things as they come as they say,

2:13.7

right? So I'm going to take things as they come, trying to keep it together. My wife and I

2:20.9

kind of lost it a little bit on each other. I mean, it was okay. We didn't get too bad, but we had a good

2:27.6

talk about it today, but the stress is on, you know, and you keep it together and you keep it together,

2:33.9

but sometimes when you get tired, you know, got to keep at it.

2:39.3

I hope you guys are doing okay.
