On January 12th, 2019, Julian Castro, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, announced his presidential run at a rally in San Antonio.

I'm running for president because it's time for new leadership, because it's time for new energy,

and it's time for a new commitment to make sure that the opportunities that I've had are available to every American.

Castro was the first member of President Obama's cabinet to announce a presidential run this year.

Julian Castro was the youngest person elected to his hometown's city council at the age of 26.

A few years later, he lost his first run for mayor of San Antonio, but went on the service mayor

first elected in 2009 and reelected in 2011 and 2013.
