Summary

What is going on with the world in the past 3 years, especially the past few weeks? There is news about inflation, the economy, and reports of big tech companies planning to lay off their employees. With the uncertainties looming, we need something to take our minds off the news and calm our anxiety. I remember the podcast that I did with Julia Cameron, an American teacher, artist, poet, playwright, novelist, filmmaker, composer, journalist, and most of all, the author of "The Artist Way".In the episode, Julia talked about her morning pages, we discussed the 10,000 hours rules, and how can we use all the practices to help our creativity juice flow. Eventually, the episode led me into writing, Skip The Line, and then created the idea list website, notepd.com.Listen to the episode, I hope the conversation with Julia in this episode helps you as it helped me.If you want to see an example of what Notepd's list looks like, check out my post here: https://notepd.com/idea/the-ultimate-guide-to-becoming-an-idea-machine-317Visit Notepd.com to read more idea lists, or sign up and create your own idea list!My new book Skip The Line is out! So I really enjoyed my conversation with Julia Cameron, author of The Artist Journey.

0:21.6

She's the one who suggests everybody should do what's called morning pages every morning.

0:26.0

We talk about that in this podcast.

0:28.4

She was very upset when I described her the 10,000 hour rule, which is the idea that

0:33.3

you can't be really great at something unless you put 10,000 hours into it.

0:38.3

And she basically said something like, you know, oh, you're a thing.

0:41.4

You've been put in prison by this rule.

0:44.0

It's preventing you from getting better.

0:46.1

And I really took that advice to heart and realized that that rule is no good.

0:50.0

It shouldn't be a limiting factor on getting better.

0:52.3

And that really inspired me to even write the book Skip Blind.

0:55.9

It also inspired me to take the combination of her idea of morning pages with my idea

1:01.4

of doing 10 ideas a day.

1:03.1

I've been doing that for 20 years.

1:05.7

And I made a website, nopad, N-O-T-E-P-D.com.

1:09.9

So it inspired me to make this website that now in the past month, 60,000 people visited

1:15.6

the site.

There's thousands of idealists on there and they're searchable.
