prosecutors gave the green light to use crucial DNA evidence in their case against

accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuerman.

The ruling marks a big victory for Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney, whose case against

the architect hinged almost entirely on DNA matches, linking Heuerman to six of the seven

sex workers.

He's charged with killing between 1993 and 2010.

At issue is the new DNA technology used, known as

whole genome sequencing, which has not been tested in a New York court. The DNA results deemed admissible

by the judge were obtained from rootless hairs recovered from six of the victims. Heurman's attorney

claims it's a public health violation and the judge is expected to rule on the challenge later

this month. Heurman has pleaded not guilty. Cops conducted two thorough searches of Heurman's home in Massapeco Park and said they found a how-to file on the killings.
