Hello and welcome to Bible Stories. We are your hosts, Matt Mullins. Hello! Hey Matt, my name is Todd

Hamons and we are two ministers slash buds who love telling the stories of the Bible and man we

cannot wait to share another one with you. In fact, today this is found in the Book of Acts. This

is a special story. This is an Acts 1, Matt, a story of a guy named Matthias being chosen to replace

well a guy that's pretty well known named Judas. So we're going to jump into that. We're going to talk a

little bit about the process of him being chosen and why that happened. Why did he replace Judas,

maybe a little backstory, so Matt take it away. Did you ever were you ever an understudy for anything in

your life? That feels like a musical or play word, an understudy and no I was not. No I was not.

Not because I wasn't interested or anything. I don't know that I had enough talent to be on stage

to do anything like that. How about you Matt? I wasn't I was in one play when I was a little boy

and were the star. No, I wish I had I had the talent. That's for sure. It was the hobbit.

And the understudy, so the guy who's cast his Bilbo, he washed out. So the understudy got the job.

I was cast as bombor who is the overweight elf or troll or whatever it was of the ones who

the hobbit, the overweight hobbit who dies. I think he ate himself to death or like drink,

poison water because he couldn't control his need to feed and water himself. So I quit. I quit.

You just weren't interested. No. I mean, why do that to a little boy? I was an overweight little

boy. When I look at you, I see bombor. Well, you know what? I quit. Understudy that.

Well, that's right. But our story does come from Acts chapter one today and it's it is about

this incredible promotion of this person who was a disciple and becomes an apostle and to set the

stage, we've just witnessed the ascension of Jesus. That's when Christ was taken. He went back

up into heaven after being on earth for 40 days following his resurrection. So Jesus ascends back

up into heaven and the disciples who have been watching this just incredible thing happen.
