J.P. Morgan is trying to beat Robin Hood at its own game.

Haven't yet heard of Robin Hood, the free online stock trading app? Launched in 2015, it's aimed at

introducing younger consumers to investing. Typically, stockbrokers charge a transaction fee each

time a customer trades a stock. Robin Hood charges

nothing, effectively robbing those fees from the richer brokerages and giving them back to their

Nouveau investors. The app now has some 5 million investors, and up to half of them are first-timers.

Robin Hood has also done something rare. It's disrupted an old-line
