Today we are on a journey through Scripture.

We hope you'll join us as we make 66 stops through each book of the Word of God.

I'm going to say a name and when I say it, I want you to say it, I want going to say a name, and when I say it, I want you to say the next thing that comes to your mind.

Are you ready? David and what came to your mind? I would say one of two things. Either David and Goliath or David and Bathsheba. It's interesting, isn't it,

that people are remembered for their greatest successes and their greatest failures. Now,

the last time we studied, we journeyed through First Samuel. And in First Samuel, of course,

chapter 17, you have the story of David and Goliath that is his great success at least early

on in life the one he's most famous for but when you journey now into the second book of

Samuel you come to David's greatest failure to the story of David and Bathsheba

may I say to you that life is full of both victories and defeats, both

triumphs and tragedies. And learning how to approach both is so very important. When you come to

2nd Samuel, you come to what the old radio commentator Paul Harvey used to call the rest of the story.

You see, 1st Samuel ends call the rest of the story.

You see, 1 Samuel ends with the death of Saul,

and 2nd Samuel begins with David mourning over the death of Saul.

A 1st Samuel concentrates primarily on the first king.

It gives us a detailed story about King Saul.

A 2nd Samuel now details the 2nd king, the man after God's own heart, known as David, his entire reign.

Just as First Samuel, we believe, of course, that Samuel himself is used by God, record much of this,

but also perhaps other men, men like Nathan and Gad, may have contributed to it. One thing we do know, whoever the human penman was, the Holy Spirit is the divine author.

And God has a message for us in this particular book of the Bible. Now, it covers a 40-year period,
