The scripture we come to today is Genesis chapter 12, which starts.

The Lord had said to Abram, and he's called Abram in this passage.

Later in the scripture, we're going to see in a few weeks.

He gets renamed Abraham.

We're just going to call him Abraham to keep it simple.

He said to Abraham, leave your native

country, your relatives, your father's family, go to the land, I will show you. And this verse is

where I find myself right now. And interestingly, it's where my wife and I found ourselves

multiple times since we've been married. Our first year of marriage, we moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, to a small church plant that was portable. We didn't know anyone there. We were there a few years as creative arts pastor. Then in 2008, we moved to a suburb of Baltimore to plant a church. In church playing world, we call it a parachute plant, meaning you just kind of parachute in. We didn't know anybody in the entire state. It wasn't like we were launching out of a church there

or something. Then we moved here in 2022, put our kids in new schools with a completely different

culture in a place where we did not have close friends. And now we're going to do it again.

We just don't know where yet. I believe God brought you to church today because he

providentially brought together my story with this scripture to teach us together. Here's my sermon

This is what Abraham found himself in. He knew how to obey, leave, but the journey was unclear.
