A United Airlines jet carrying 221 passengers from Venice, Italy, struck a light pole on the Jersey Turnpike on Sunday afternoon as it was coming in for a landing in Newark.

Airlines said none of the passengers or 10 crew members aboard the United Flight were injured.

The New Jersey State Police said the landing tire and the underside of the plane.

The underside of the plane hit a truck.

Then a light pole.

Then struck a Jeep that was on the highway.

Now the driver of the truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, he was released.

The FAA says the 767 landed safely after it came in contact with a light pole and a box truck,

and then somehow managed to land.

The runway begins a stone's throw, they say, from the edge of the highway. Officials with the port authority confirmed that an object was struck. Yes, it was a Jeep. And yes, it was a box truck. And yes, it was a pole. Yeah. At the time. Minor damage to the aircraft was observed. Airport staff inspected the runway for debris and normal operations quickly resume. But either way, the fact that the truck driver was not killed, the guy in the Jeep was not killed, but the plane didn't crash.
