Egg producers scrambling to stave off antitrust.

Major egg producers including Cal Main Foods in Versova,

which significantly hiked egg prices in 2024 and 2025 are being investigated.

Back then, they said it was bird flu, but this investigation reveals that market manipulation

might have been at play.

And while the prices were largely yoked to the dwindling supply, thanks to the culling of

large flocks, there was. The investigation

is indicating chicanery at play as well. The competitors share sensitive information to set

prices through middlemen who lack independence and the ability to catch collusion. They are, in fact,

not much more than shell companies. The price of eggs dropping all over the country,

the AP reports. The average price of eggs was $2.50 per dozen in February this year, compared to

$6.23 per dozen in March 2025. Bird flu was to blame for the higher retail prices during

the first five months of 2025. An outbreak forced farmers and commercial producers to slaughter entire

broods of egg-laying hands. The case has dwindled in the second half of the year, which helped

restore egg supplies. Experts say the Trump administration's decision to import nearly one billion

eggs last year also helped lower prices. And this reporter can confirm. Yesterday, a dozen jumbo

strangely operating only in the New York Bronx and Long Island areas. But these low, low Western beef prices

might not be a function of the DOJ's beef with big egg, could very well be oversupply as a result of ramped up production to meet

the demand brought on when avian flu ravished the egg community.
