and who wouldn't want to read about those things? You can't do any better than stories about

detectives, especially private detectives. These are people, as they are portrayed, who have

seen things. They're damaged people. Generally, lonely, too. They're never doing great. Marinating

in whiskey and a veneer of tough guy bravado. Thin veneer, too. They're never doing great. Marinating in whiskey and a veneer of tough guy bravado.

Thin veneer easily cracked. And they're trying to get to the bottom of something. I mean,

often it's a bottle of whiskey, but usually it's the case. So they and we can understand where

the problem happened. And we know that once they do solve this thing,

the damage will remain. And there will be another thing to solve because detective stories are

often part of a series. Thus, we arrive at Jonathan Ames. He's the author of several novels,

two of which became movies. You Were Never Really Here and The Extra Man.

He's created two TV series, Blunt Talks starring Patrick Stewart, and Bored to Death on HBO,

which starred Jason Schwartzman as an amateur detective named Jonathan Ames.
