Jonah. Take a deep breath and quiet your heart as we become aware of God's loving presence around us and within us.

Today's passage comes from Jonah chapter 4 verse 2.

I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger, abounding and faithful

love and one who relents from sending disaster. Recite God's goodness.

Lord of the land and the sea, you are indeed gracious, showing mercy to those who deserve none,

and you are compassionate, showing concern for those of us who are but dust.

Thank you for being quick to forgive and slow to become angry.

Your faithful love overflows to all who find refuge in you.

Take a few moments now to recite God's goodness, praising him for who he is and for what

he has done in your own life.

Express your neediness. Oh God, I confess that, like Jonah, I am so quick to judge whether others deserve your mercy or not,

forgetting that, truthfully, I don't deserve your mercy either.

I seek your justice toward those who have offended me, but I plead your grace on myself.

Forgive me.

Help me humble myself and not think of myself more highly than I ought.

So pause now and express your neediness to God, confessing your sins and your need for His

forgiveness and grace in your life. Seek his stillness.

Quiet yourself before the Lord and ponder.

Who have you deemed unworthy of God's mercy?

Allow His spirit to lead you into repentance and receive his full pardon and forgiveness.
