political reporters that I've known for decades now John Wals, he's of course the editor of the Nevada Independent,

which is one of the great sort of new nonprofit entities that I think has helped sort of lead the way for where good

journalism is headed on this front. So look we have a whole long conversation

about the craziness of this current Nevada

primary versus caucus what it all means plus Nevada and the general how the

governor's doing but Las Vegas and it's I mean if you'd ask me 20 years ago the Las Vegas was going to

to host a Super Bowl I'd say not in my lifetime and here we are so John Ralston's

seen it all so it's an excellent conversation but before we get to it I can't

sit here without spending a few minutes it's sort of dealing with the current

political situation that we're all staring at whether it's responding to our current NBC news

poll or the debacle that is Congress the border deal and Israel. Look we know

democracy is messy and we know the making of congressional legislation is as messy as the process that's used to make sausage.

That's why we love to borrow that metaphor all the time.

Oh, you don't want to watch sausage being made. You don't want to watch

legislation being made. But let's be honest. There's messy and then there's the current

state of American politics. To put it in terms that my friends in the military like to use, we've entered the FUBAR zone

in our current story arc of American politics.

Yes, it's a family podcast, but FUBAR, for those you don't know, stands for,

effed up beyond all recognition.

And that's how I would describe our current state of politics, right?
