Goodness gracious, if you are listening to this podcast, you are not going to be surprised what you will hear this morning, but let's catch you up on what

happened last night. Mike Johnson tried to pass a five-year extension of FISA last night at,

I don't know, 1.30 in the morning, and it failed spectacularly. The Republican leaders posted a compromise FISA amendment just before 11 p.m.

that would have strengthened criminal penalties for misuse of the program include some warrant

language that Democrats say merely codifies existing law and enhance congressional access to the FISA

courts. A group of Republicans rejected Johnson's compromise, voting it down

by a 200 to 220 margin. This was a big group of Republicans that voted against it, including

Brian Fitzpatrick, Andy Harris, Darren Lhood, Tom Massey, Marionette Miller, Meek, Sack Nunn, Andy Ogles, Scott

Perry, John Rose, Keith Self,

Mike Turner, and Jeff Van Drew.
