Welcome to our Rosary meditation.

Let's begin in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

It's called to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

Now tomorrow, Sunday, we celebrate the baptism of Jesus, the beginning of his public ministry, but it really begins with John the Baptist preparing the way.

Matthew chapter 3, John the Baptist appeared and he preached in the wilderness of Judea and this was his message.

Repent for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.

But when he saw a number of Pharisees and Sages

coming for baptism, he said to them,

You brood of vipers, who warned you to fly from the retribution that is coming?

But if you are repentant, produce the appropriate fruit.

For even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees

so that any tree which fails to produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown on the fire.

Now John was beheaded at the request of Herod, the wife of King Herod, because John would not remain

silent in the face of evil. John told the king to his face that it was wrong for him to have divorced his wife and taken his brother's wife.

And for bearing witness to the truth, John was martyred.

We honor the martyrdom of John and we ask him for his intercession that we may have courage like him to give heroic witness to the truth cost what it may.
