Hello my friends and welcome to the Explorers podcast. I hope you are doing well. Today is part

two in our series on one of Australia's greatest explorers, John McDool Stewart.

In part one of our series, we learned about McDool Stewart, his upbringing in Scotland,

his arrival in Australia at the age of 23 and 1838, and the experience he gained as a

surveyor in the 1840s and 50s in the fledgling colony of South Australia. We also want

with McDool Stewart on the expedition that found Cooper's Creek, which was led by Charles

Sturt, that Sturt, STURT, not to be confused with our explorer, Stewart. We then followed

Stewart on his first expedition, Discovery, as he and two other men ventured into the Australian

interior, becoming the first Europeans to reach Chambers Creek, plus the future Opal Capital

of the world, Cooper PD. Sturt had done a remarkable job, journeying for three months

on only six weeks of supplies. He and his team had uncovered thousands of miles of territory.

Today, we are going to cover the second, third and fourth expeditions of Stewart. The first

two are not the most important endeavors, but they do push our story further and further
