Hello, this is Henry Jones, welcome to the podcast. Today, John McDonnell, the former

shadow chancellor, under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn, he's a long-standing stowa

of the left, going back to when in the days of greater London Council in the 1980s, he

ran the finances, but he's been a huge presence, big influence on me, I used to work for him.

I want to work to try to get him as leader of the Labour Party, along with Andrew Fischer,

who ended up as head of policy under Corbyn. Now, I want to speak to him in the aftermath of

Bartley and Spend, the by-election there, where Labour scrapes through with its lowest share of the

vote in the history of that constituency, about where next for the left for Labour, about the

disillusionment amongst British Muslim voters and how they feel they're being treated by Labour,

about general turmoil in the party, about the failure of opposition, there's a lot we need to

I just want to hear firstly, I suppose just your response to Bartley and Spend,

and obviously across the Labour Party people were delighted that can lead me to one,

but I suppose there's a danger that the triumphalism that is currently being heard,

eclipses the fact that if you look at that result and the swing towards the Conservatives,

that Labour as well, if you look at Hartley Paul by election in which obviously Labour lost

they badly, that the Labour Party is heading for a very bad defeat and it's not just failing to
