This week I tried to get to the bottom of it with the shadow chancellor John MacDonald.

This time last year, Theresa May was riding high in the polls, seemingly untouchable, a Prime Minister well and truly in a honeymoon period.

Jeremy Corbyn, by contrast, was engaged in a constant battle with his own MPs for the soul

of the Labour Party.

But since June's election, politics has been flipped on its head.

Now it's Mrs May with her back against the wall, fending off attacks from all sides,

while Mr Corbin tells us he and his team are preparing for government.

Back in the days when we all thought Mr Corbin was driving labour into political irrelevance,

it was often John MacDonald, his friend and shadow chancellor,

who would come on to shows like these and tell us we were wrong.

Things would turn, he said, just you wait and see.

And he was right.

Now, the most radical overhaul of Britain's economy since the 1980s is a realistic prospect.
