Hello and welcome back to Sociology 101.

0:14.2

Today we're going to talk about a very important question with regard to what about those who have never heard the gospel? This is a question that's asked in a lot of

0:23.7

different debates among Christians as well as debates with atheists. In fact, just before I came on,

0:29.5

Braxton Hunter sent me a clip of a recent video that was just put out in response to Mike Winger from a

0:36.6

pretty well-known atheist, I guess,

0:39.1

online. He has a YouTube page. And I just put it up here. I haven't really reviewed this whole thing.

0:44.4

This is not going to be a review of that video. It's just introducing this question, especially as

0:49.5

it pertains to John McArthur's teaching, because he gives an answer that I kind of like, actually, and that's one of the reasons we're going to confront the inconsistency, at least the perceived inconsistency from my vantage point, of John MacArthur's answer to this question with regard to what about those who've never heard the gospel? And especially with regard to his interpretation of Romans chapter 1, verse 20, that no one has an excuse because the light of revelation has been made known to all.

1:16.5

And that those who are faithful or live up to the light of revelation they've been given, God will bring more light, more revelation to those people.

1:23.1

That's the answer MacArthur seems to give in the sermon clips we're going to be listening to.

1:27.7

But just real quick, before we jump into that, here's the question posed by an atheist,

1:31.4

so you can see the importance of this question, at least in our own context.

1:36.1

Listen to this.

1:38.3

So it didn't take much for the little gears in my head to start turning, and it occurred to me to ask,

1:42.8

What about people who never heard?

1:45.4

It seems, I once tentatively muttered to a friend, almost unfair.

1:50.7

My friend replied and I quickly agreed that God would never do anything unfair,

1:54.6

and we both nodded and went about our business playing with G.I. Joes or whatever.

1:59.0

That was a slapdash answer, of course, but it's no exaggeration

2:03.0

to say that in all my life since then, I've never seen a pastor or apologists give a much

2:07.1

better one. I'm pretty sure the reason for this is that there's simply no meaningful answer

2:12.4

to this problem, because it represents an irreconcilable dilemma for Christianity.
